Like the name suggest, a turbo tent allows fast setup due to its friendly design. While most turbo tents will require two people to set them up because of their size it’s quite simple and fast.
Turbo tents have strong frames, aluminum poles, that are all ready to go once you take the tent out of the bag. You stretch the framed tent out and pull up and lock the joints and you’re set. Take down is just as easy and takes mere minutes. You spend less time fussing with poles and more time enjoying the Aussie bush.

Turbo tents are most suited to longer camping trips where you have vehicle space and you don’t have to pack the tent in, as it’s not a light backpacking tent. The wonderful thing about these tents is that they’re taller and roomier than backpacking tents so you can actually stand up and get changed in them, or stretch out in the morning.
Good quality turbo tents can be found right in Australia. Black Wolf Adventure Gear make excellent turbo tents in different sizes, perfect for your next camping trip.
Black Wolf’s Turbo series has simple tent setups or add-on flies and panels for an even roomier home away from home. Black Wolf have a range of tents including their Turbo Tents made of good quality poly/cotton canvas and also the Turbo Lite Tents made of top quality waterproof ripstop polyester material. They are held together with heat sealed seams to prevent drafting and splitting.
One of the tents we have is the Black Wolf Turbo Lite touring tent which is made out of polyester. I was skeptical when my husband brought this tent home, saying it was a five minute tent. Since many of them only have four pegs to put in the ground, it is a matter of pegging it, and pushing up a cenre pole unit to extend the internal pole system. I stood there skeptically with my stop watch, but was pleasantly surprised at the truth of the quick turbo tent. I love this tent and so do our older children. Read more about Black Wolf Tents.
Turbo tents are not suited to every camping situation. To ensure it’s right for you, this is a list of why you would want a turbo tent:
As aforementioned turbo tents are not suited to backpackers and hikers. They’ll fit easily in the boot of your car, but being the size they are and the added weight from the material and poles you’ll find it awkward to carry on your back. However if you can set it up before and hike to it, you’ll be more than happy with what you’ll have. Turbo tents are weather proof, though because they’re tall they’re not aerodynamic, which is another thing to consider.
Turbo tents are perfect for festivals, family camping trips and 4WD holidays. The main thing is that they’re fast and easy to set up so you'll spend less time fussing at camp and more time having real fun!
