Camper Rental - Travel Australia in a Camper Trailer !

Camper Rental? One option that many people don’t consider straight away is the camper trailer, but they can prove to be a cost effective way to get around quickly, so if you do not know much about them, it is definitely worth reading on!

The camper trailer or rent camper as they are sometimes known is a full accommodation option that you can take almost anywhere.  As the name suggests the camp tent is stored in the trailer and is usually light weight and can be towed by almost any car.

On arrival at your location, the tent frame is released from the trailer and will fold out and to reveal your tent.  This involves effectively flipping the metal or wooden top of the trailer over, which will turn into the main floor of your canvas tent, the frame following the floor will snap into place, leaving you with a fully set up tent in just minutes.  You can then get on with enjoying your trip rather then spending time hammering in tent pegs and bracing for the weather.

Advantages of the Camper Rental

Campers have recently become very popular in Australia and for good reason, some of the key advantages with camper rental are:

  • Quick and simple installation - Setting up and taking down will take a matter of minutes instead of the 30-60 minutes required for a normal tent, making them perfect for multi-stop travel trips.

  • Less chance of pests – Because the floor of the camper is sealed and suspended from the ground you will be less likely to have any bugs or animals enter the tent, especially the raised sleeping area.

  • Less securing required – Most campers will need no ropes or supports to secure them, and if the weather is forecast to be bad, the requirements are minimal.

  • Electricity available – Most campers now have the ability to be connected to a powered campsite, which means you are able to charge all those essential devices such as phones and mp3 players!

  • Huge amount of storage space – With the full open area and sleeping area you will end up with much more storage space than in most tents. In addition many campers come with an optional annex that you can add on to extend your coverage even further.

Disadvantages of the Camper

While there are many advantages to the camper, there are also a few disadvantages to camper rental, these include:

  • Road accessible campsites – You will need to be able to access your campsite by road with a camper trailer.
  • Book early – The rise in popularity of campers have lead to increases in demand, so you need to book early to secure them.
  • Price jumps – Peak seasons are now seeing companies rent campers at an inflated cost. These include the peak periods of Christmas and Easter.
  • Value – Like with any purchase you need to do your sums, a camper trailer can range from between $40-$80 per day plus campsite fees of between $0-$45 per day.
  • Car hire – If you need car hire as well you will need to factor this into your calculations.

Perhaps a campervan may prove better value?

Buy or rent a camper

The next consideration you will likely face is whether to buy or rent? The best option with a camper trailer is to try before you buy and many companies now make that very easy, giving significant discounts on trailers that have been rented before being bought. For example you can rent a camper for a month or so, and then receive between 50-100% of that rental cost off the full cost of the camper. Make sure if you are considering buying a camper that you hunt around for the best deal before you hire!
